Suitable for all transport organisations

Case A: Central organisation of the transport

Some transports are already organised centrally today, e.g. through a control centre or direct stacker truck link to SAP.

In this case, the transport management system is inserted between the computer system that generates the transport orders (e.g. SAP) and the RDT radio data devices in the vehicles: instead of forwarding the orders immediately, they are buffered for a few seconds (express orders) or minutes. The optimisation logic can then work with this „order buffer“ - which should be as large as possible.

Just like their notification, finished transport orders are of course confirmed automatically too.

The benefits of SyncroTESS as an add-on to ERP/PP or warehouse management systems result from the much more complex optimisation logic.

Case B: Local transport organisation

You should first check which material flows and transport processes are suitable for a central handling. Some (localised) parts of the fleet often remain a local responsibility.

The second step determines how transport orders are entered into the system. A number of parallel methods are possible: Entry in the screen masks of stationary PCs, mobile entry by mobile phone or hand-held RDT device, entry per bar code-scanner by the warehouse personnel, line feeder, or local driver. An automatic interface to the PP/ERP system (e.g. SAP) is of course possible parallel to this.

The third step relates to the communication of the orders to the driver and their confirmation: radio data and complex telematic solutions are possible, though also tough, industrial-standard mobile phones with good displays, and even radiotelephony for special cases.

The implementation of a transport management system for local transport organisations thus requires higher investments (e.g. RDT) and changed processes in operation. However, compared to Case A it normally generates much bigger cost advantages thanks to the improved operational organisation.

The amortisation period is similar to that for Case A. But the annual recurrent savings effect is at least twice as high and remains undiminished in T = 2, 3, 4, 5, …. !

Case C: Contract logistics

If an outsourcing of material flows and transports is considered, the contract logistics company should be asked whether it uses a transport management system that really does optimise the process.

The use of SyncroTESS by an outsourcing company pays off with the same advantages as described above while the investments are made by the contract logistics company. The contract logistics company hereby profits from the good verifiability of its services (on-time delivery performance) in detail.

But SyncroTESS can also be used in one's own company. This results in the additional advantage of a higher transparency: the performance of the contract logistics company can be measured at any time, particularly with respect to punctuality and reasonable periods for transportation processing. The same also applies of course for the perfect tracking of loads in realtime and later.

Application Example

SyncroTESS is suitable for industrial enterprises of all sizes – in small applications the system can, for instance, schedule 7 forklifts and 600 transfer orders per day. In a larger application, SyncroTESS actively and passively manages auxiliary transport equipment within the intra-plant transport system – including multi-step transport chains. A typical example: 60,000 transport orders are managed, 22,000 containers are tracked to and from 12,000 transfer destinations including 3,000 transfers to warehouse goods-in departments and 4,000 transfers from warehouse goods-out – all using around 85 vehicles.
