HeidelbergCement, one of the world’s largest integrated manufacturers of building materials, has successfully rolled out the latest version of INFORM’s transport optimization software for the building materials industry.
The new version (V10) features an overhauled user interface (UI) and decision-making engine. Inspired by feedback from customers and partners, INFORM designed the new UI to accelerate user adoption, while the updated algorithms further increase truck fleet productivity.
“We have been using INFORM’s AI based transport optimization software for over 5 years in the cement business,” said Silvio Günther, Head of Logistics Germany at HeidelbergCement. “On-time delivery and flexibility are vital to our cement customers and INFORM’s software allows our cement customer service center to react quickly.”
The new design enhances user experience for transport planners and dispatchers in the cement, ready-mix concrete, aggregates, and asphalt industry, making the software more intuitive and visually engaging. Easy-to-understand icons mean faster time-to-proficiency for novice users, cutting down the costs of user training significantly.
“Our UI experts followed a strict ‘3C’ approach – color, contrast, clarity,” said Dr. Paul Flachskampf, Head of Road Transport at INFORM’s Logistics Division. “This reduces visual fatigue and digital eye strain. Improved use of size and colors allows users across all roles to get the big picture at a glance, while quickfilters provide fast access to relevant information.”
The new release also includes an improved set of optimizers for aggregates and asphalt logistics. “Our journey to deliver best-in-class algorithms and transport optimization products continues with V10,” explains Dr. Flachskampf. Additional features will be released in the coming months, including enhanced web capabilities, an all-new telematics app, machine learning (ML) powered add-ons to expand supply chain forecasts, and easy-to-generate BI dashboards based on Qlik Sense.
Compared to standard transport planning software, INFORM’s solution is powered by algorithms that analyze a virtually endless number of scheduling decisions in real-time and identify those that are ideal for minimizing costs and maximizing service level & on-time performance.
2019 also marks the 25th anniversary of INFORM’s first deployment in the building materials industry. Hanson Australia (part of the HeidelbergCement Group) was one of the early adopters. “It has been exciting to see how other big and medium-size players in the building materials industry followed to optimize their truck fleet operations by means of algorithms,” commented Dr. Flachskampf.
HeidelbergCement is one of the world’s largest integrated manufacturers of building materials with leading market positions in aggregates, cement, and ready-mixed concrete. The company employs approximately 57,000 people at more than 3,000 locations in around 60 countries.
