INFORM and HHLA Container Terminal Burchardkai (CTB) continue long-term partnership

back to overview

The long-term contract formalizes the continuation of the successful partnership between INFORM and HHLA Container Terminal Burchardkai (CTB, Hamburg’s largest container terminal), which has been using INFORM’s optimization software since 2009.

HHLA Container Terminal Burchardkai continues to use INFORM software to manage and optimize all transport orders. The software optimizes container moves between the water and landside via automatic yard blocks as well as CTB’s manual container yard for more than eight years.

The long-term service contract is effective for five years and provides a mechanism for close collaboration between both parties for future system release and possible system enhancements. The contract also includes 24/7 support. INFORM is the central contact for software requests at CTB, along with HPC Hamburg Port Consulting.

“We are highly satisfied with the stability of INFORM’s optimization software as well as their efficient incident handling,” said Andreas Hollmann, Managing Director at CTB. “In combination with INFORM’s 24/7 support, there was no major breakdown in all the years.”

“We are very delighted about this long-term sign of confidence,” explains Dr. Eva Savelsberg, SVP Logistics Division at INFORM. “Once more, CTB gave us the opportunity to prove the quality of our optimization software and prove how important it is to have such technology for optimized terminal control.”

An ongoing modernization program has gradually increased the terminal capacity at CTB from 2.6 to 5.2 million TEU per year. It will also ensure the mega-ship readiness of the terminal. INFORM has been part of this large project from an early phase.

As part of the modernization project, additional fully automatic yard blocks are being added to the container yard. Ten are already in operation, and another two are near completion. They replace part of the former yard, which is being served by manned straddle carriers.

The straddle carriers will continue to be used to move containers to the new yard blocks once the project has been completed. Additionally, INFORM has delivered software enhancements that support twin straddle carriers. This functionality optimizes CTB’s twin straddle carrier fleet’s ability to move two load units at a time.
