REUSABLE PACKAGING SPECIALIST GEORG UTZ STANDARDIZES YARD MANAGEMENT PROCESSES WITH INFORM SOFTWARE

Nov 21, 2023

Georg Utz GmbH is implementing the time slot and yard management software SYNCROSUPPLY from INFORM for the uniform and efficient mapping of the main delivery processes at the Schüttdorf site.

Georg Utz GmbH, part of the Swiss Utz Group, has been using the SYNCROSUPPLY time slot and yard management system at its Schüttdorf plant in southern Lower Saxony since the beginning of 2023. Utz, a specialist in the development, manufacture and sale of reusable plastic packaging solutions, is aiming to increase the process quality of its delivery logistics of around 100 trucks per day. Previously, the planning and control of deliveries and shipments in Schüttdorf was managed using various systems and primarily Excel.

The largely manual processes in inbound and outbound traffic often led to traffic jams and long truck throughput times. With the digitalization of delivery processes, Utz sees a great opportunity not only in more efficient truck handling, but also in quality improvement and further process standardization.

The smooth transition during the introduction of the software and the acceptance of the new processes by both the company's own employees and its forwarding partners are particularly important to Utz. To ensure this, the project was planned in several phases right from the start. It started with a standard system hosted by INFORM. The forwarding companies can already book time slots for incoming or outgoing goods via the central time slot booking platform.

In the further course of the project, automation of the plant entrance and the possibility of a self-checkout as well as a connection to the ERP system for material management are planned. Self-service terminals from Waagenbau Dohmen GmbH in Würselen will be used at the gate.

In future, the software will collect reliable data of sufficient quality to initiate further process improvements, particularly with regard to reducing throughput times and increasing transparency. The subsequent roll-out to other locations was also taken into account during project planning.
