Efficient processes at VW Mexico

VW Mexico has realized its vision of highly integrated vehicle logistics with the software solution from INFORM. This system coordinates production and import/export volumes in a highly efficient process and ensures that vehicles reach their destinations quickly and cost-effectively.
In Puebla, Mexico, VW not only produces the legendary Beetle, but also the Jetta. Every year, around 600,000 vehicles are produced here by 15,000 employees for worldwide distribution. These vehicles travel long distances before they can be handed over to their new owners, which requires perfectly coordinated logistics.
The highlights
Efficient production and logistics
The plant in Puebla produces around 600,000 vehicles a year, including models such as the Beetle and the Jetta.
The logistics process includes production, storage and transportation using a combination of trucks, trains and ships to reach dealers in Europe, North America and South America.

Vehicle logistics optimized thanks to software
INFORM's Vehicle Logistics System, which was implemented in 2007, coordinates all logistics processes, from storage to shipping.
The system connects to Volkswagen's global supply chain management system, TOMCADS, to generate optimized workflows for vehicle shipping.
Efficient terminal management
The terminal in Puebla can accommodate over 11,500 cars, with additional external parking spaces for 8,000 vehicles.
Around 1,700 cars leave the plant in Puebla every day, with 1,200 being transported by train and 1,500 by truck.
With INFORM's software solution, we can optimize all processes centrally and in real time and synchronize the entire supply chain - our highly integrated approach has been realized.

Maximum efficiency in transport planning
INFORM's software uses advanced algorithms to optimize transport routes and ensures that vehicles are loaded in the right order to maximize capacity.
The system helps to avoid overcrowding and inefficiencies in the terminals and ensures that most vehicles spend less than 1.5 days in the terminal.
Integration and transparency in logistics
Conclusion:
Integrated optimization and high acceptance
With INFORM's software solution, VW has a highly integrated system that synchronizes and transparently controls all logistics processes. “In the past, we had a number of different car terminal management systems. INFORM's software solution provides us with a system that allows us to optimize all processes centrally and in real time,” explains Beckmann.
The continuous development and improvement of the optimization algorithms enables VW to make strategic decisions in real time. The user-friendliness of the software leads to a high level of acceptance among employees.
Benefits
- Time and Cost Savings:
Efficient planning and management reduce the time vehicles spend in terminals and lower overall logistics costs. - Transparency and Coordination:
Centralized and real-time management of logistics processes enhance visibility and coordination.
- Improved Capacity Utilization: Optimal loading sequences and route planning maximize transport capacity and reduce delays.
