At Weber Food Technology SE & Co. KG. the name says it all: food is the focus. The family-run company develops and manufactures machines that portion, precisely place, and package sausages, meat, cheese, and vegan alternatives. Approximately 2,100 employees at 27 locations in 22 countries contribute to the company’s success. However, the entire range of high-tech machines is exclusively "Made in Germany." All stainless-steel components, right down to the hygiene screws, are made in-house. Since its founding, Weber has operated six German production sites, which have been centrally planned to use the industry solution FELIOS | APS since mid-2023.
“We chose FELIOS because it treats the entire plant network as one large planning entity, enabling seamless production.”
The Weber sites are spread across Germany. The headquarters and one production site are in Breidenbach. Other facilities are in Neubrandenburg, Wolfertschwenden, and Werther – the latter specializing in packaging systems. Blade production takes place in Groß Nemerow, while the site in Braunschweig focuses on digital image processing.
"We have an incredibly high level of vertical integration – over 90% – and more than 10 levels of disposition, in other words: a sub-part within a sub-part within a sub-part,” explains Andreas Gonser, SAP-PP consultant at Weber. "A single line can contain 10,000 parts, sourced from our six sites. This complexity – from sheet metal work to machining and assembly – across six interconnected plants was simply no longer manageable." At the same time, the system contained 40,000 to 50,000 production and planning orders, along with 10,000 stock transfer orders and 800 production workers whose deployment had to be coordinated.
THE PLANT NETWORK AS ONE PLANNING UNIT
The APS system FELIOS now plans the entire network of orders across all plants “uniformly and systematically,” using the integrated Data Warehouse module and the CP and SPE add-ons for capacity, personnel deployment and shift planning, respectively.
