While many companies are likely still holding their first meetings of the day, production at CAPAUL has been running throughout the night. Headquartered in Eupen, Eastern Belgium, the company manufactures demanding precision parts for customers in the aerospace, medical technology, energy, rail transport, and various industrial sectors. Since 2021, the company has been using INFORM’s AI-driven APS system FELIOS to manage its increasingly complex manufacturing processes. The introduction of the AI-supported planning software has led to a 25 percent improvement in on-time delivery while simultaneously reducing planning effort.
“FELIOS gives us much better foresight. I can see exactly which orders are on schedule and where things are getting critical.”
The digital planning board instantly shows him which operations are delayed, which resources are overloaded, and where action is required. Previously, manual coordination took around eight hours a week. Now, about two hours are enough to set priorities and make adjustments.
If delivery delays or machine breakdowns occur, their effects can be identified early. This allows customers to be informed in good time. “Of course, no one likes a delayed delivery, but giving four months’ notice is far better than just a week’s.” Such situations are now much less frequent because the system is continuously updated, and potential bottlenecks are flagged early. “We can react much faster now because we know exactly where we stand.”
FELIOS has boosted CAPAUL’s on-time delivery by around 25 percent – a gain felt both inside the company and by its customers. For Marx, the conclusion is clear:
“A planner’s job is to solve problems, not to waste time finding them. FELIOS shows them to me early enough.”
Another impact is visible in inventory levels: despite significant company growth in recent years, stock levels have not increased.
“Our inventory remains constant relative to revenue growth. We need FELIOS to avoid building up huge stock levels,” says CEO Henkes. For the machinery manufacturer, this is an important indicator that production planning is not only punctual but also material-efficient. The forward-looking sequence planning enables targeted, needs-based procurement of materials without creating unnecessary stock.
